Good Afternoon Families,
I wanted to take a minute and share with you a little information about the WONDERFUL training that some BBL staff members recently participated in. As mentioned in the latest Executive Director's Newsletter, BBL has partnered with Center for Architecture Foundation for a two part staff training. This past Saturday, 10 BBL Staff members went to CFA in Manhattan the first half of the training. Our next session will be on June 9, 2012 right here in Hoboken, NJ.
The session started with everyone drawing or creating a model of a place they remember most as a child and talked about what we noticed about the drawings and models. Later we found out that these "things" we noticed were architectural design concepts. Some of the concepts we talked about were 3-dimensionality, form/shape, size & scale, patterns.
The teachers learned different ways to incorporate the 5 senses into their community walks. Later, they had the opportunity to put what they learned to use as they went on a scavenger hunt through Greenwich Village to look for the architectural features they learned about. It was fantastic hearing all the teachers talk about the different ways they were going to incorporate what they learned into their classrooms.
The final part of the training was to create a structure incorporating as many architectural design concepts and features we wanted and also include a model to show scale (ie, a person). The wonderful models will be on display shortly at both locations.
As administrators, we can not wait to see how the teachers will incorporate what they learned into their classrooms. Everyone is excited for the June 9th training. Great things are happening at Beyond Basic Learning; the International School!!
